Golfanlage Velden Köstenberg sits on the hillsides above the Wörthersee, Austria's warmest lake and the glamorous heart of Carinthia's summer season. The Wörthersee region draws a well-heeled crowd — it has for well over a century — and the golf here reflects that setting: a course laid out across rolling, forested terrain with the kind of views over the lake and surrounding Alps that make it genuinely difficult to focus on your scorecard.
Carinthia's golf scene is quieter and more relaxed than the famous resort clusters of Salzburg or Tyrol, and Köstenberg fits that mood. The layout works with the natural contours of the hillside rather than against them, meaning elevation changes are a constant factor in club selection and shot-making. The village of Köstenberg itself sits just above Velden am Wörthersee, a small town with an outsized reputation for summer nightlife, lakeside dining, and a certain Austrian-Mediterranean atmosphere that bleeds into the whole experience.
For visiting golfers, this is a course best understood as part of a wider Wörthersee stay — the golf complements the lake, the mountains, and the regional food and wine rather than standing alone as a destination in its own right.
