Few courses carry a name with as much weight as "Old Course," and Tramore's version earns it honestly. Tramore Golf Club traces its roots to 1894, making it one of the older established clubs in Munster, and the layout has a settled, weathered confidence that only generations of play can produce. The course occupies high ground above Tramore Bay on the Waterford coast, and the views across the Atlantic-fed estuary are a constant presence — as is the wind, which transforms the same holes from one round to the next.
Waterford is serious golf country, and Tramore sits comfortably within that tradition. The terrain rolls across coastal farmland with enough elevation change to keep every lie interesting, and the turf plays firm and fast in the drier months, rewarding ground-game thinking over aerial ambition.
For visitors making the short drive from Waterford city, the club offers the kind of unpretentious, members'-first atmosphere that defines Irish golf at its most authentic — competitive scratch golf on a course that has no need to announce itself.
