Few courses in Australia carry the same combination of history and setting as Manly Golf Club. Founded in 1903, it is one of Sydney's oldest golf clubs, occupying land on the Northern Beaches peninsula that has been shaped and reshaped over more than a century. The layout winds through native bushland — Sydney red gums, banksias, and scribbly gums framing nearly every hole — creating a course that feels insulated from the surrounding suburb despite sitting in one of the city's most densely loved coastal communities.
The course itself is a genuine test of shot-making, demanding accuracy over raw power. The undulating terrain rewards players who can work the ball and manage their misses, and the bush that lines the fairways punishes those who stray. Several holes offer glimpses across the Northern Beaches landscape, reinforcing that sense of playing somewhere with real character and consequence.
Manly as a place needs little introduction — the beach, the ferry from Circular Quay, the easy coastal energy. The golf club sits just inland from all of it, a members' course with genuine heritage that has served the local community for well over a century.
