Newcastle, Washington sits on the eastern edge of the Seattle-Bellevue metro corridor, where the land rises into the forested hills above Lake Washington. Coal Creek Golf Course takes its name from the area's 19th-century mining heritage — this corner of King County once supplied coal to the Pacific Northwest's growing cities, and the rolling, wooded terrain still carries the character of that industrial past beneath layers of second-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar.
The course plays through a landscape shaped by that same topography: elevation changes, tree-lined corridors, and the kind of Pacific Northwest conditions that reward shot-making over raw distance. Expect firm, strategic ground in the drier summer months and a softer, more forgiving test through the long grey winters that define golf in the Seattle region.
As a public facility in one of the country's most golf-dense suburban corridors, Coal Creek serves a serious local player base. The Seattle area produces competitive amateurs who treat their home courses with real respect, and a par 72 layout in this terrain will test the full bag.
