Golf Le Diable

Few resort courses in Canada generate as much buzz as Le Diable — and the name alone tells you something. Designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and opened in 1999, this is the more dramatic of the 2 courses at Tremblant resort, carved through the Laurentian wilderness with a deliberately wild personality. Hurdzan-Fry leaned hard into the rugged terrain, shaping deep bunkers, forced carries over wetlands, and holes that tumble through dense boreal forest. The result plays more like a challenge issued than an invitation extended.

Mont-Tremblant itself sits about 130 kilometres north of Montreal in the Laurentians, a region of rounded ancient mountains, lakes, and hardwood forests that explode with color in autumn. The village at the base of the ski mountain draws visitors year-round, and golf season here runs roughly May through October before the mountain pivots back to skiers.

Le Diable rewards length and nerve more than subtlety. Golfers who prefer a thinking-person's course may find its sibling, Le Géant, a better fit — but those drawn to spectacle and difficulty tend to remember this one long after the round ends.
