Amelia National Golf Club sits on Amelia Island, the northernmost of Florida's barrier islands, where the Atlantic coast gives way to maritime forests of live oak, Spanish moss, and saw palmetto. The island has long attracted serious golfers — it's home to one of the Southeast's more celebrated resort destinations — and Amelia National represents the private, residential side of that tradition, offering members a quieter alternative to the area's more public-facing layouts.
The Tom Fazio design plays through a classic low-country landscape of lagoons, wetlands, and mature tree corridors, with the water and natural vegetation doing most of the strategic work rather than forced carries or artificial shaping. Fazio's routing rewards accuracy and course management over raw distance, with greens complexes that tend to be the real test.
Fernandina Beach itself is one of Florida's most historically intact Victorian towns, and the overall feel here — shaded fairways, salt-tinged air, a genuinely private atmosphere — is a world away from the more commercial golf corridors farther south along the state's coastline.
