Few golf clubs in England can claim a setting quite as dramatic as Buxton and High Peak, which sits high on the Derbyshire moorland at around 1,500 feet above sea level — making it one of the highest courses in the country. Buxton itself is the highest market town in England, and the club's position on the exposed plateau above it means playing conditions can shift dramatically: bright sunshine one moment, a horizontal squall the next. That's part of the appeal.
The course is a genuine moorland layout, shaped by the rugged Peak District landscape rather than imposed upon it. Heather, limestone outcrops, and sweeping views across the Dark Peak characterize the terrain, and the turf plays firm and fast in the way only upland courses tend to deliver. Wind is a constant factor here, turning modest distances into genuine tests of shot-making and course management.
