Prescott sits in the Arizona highlands at nearly 5,400 feet, where the Sonoran Desert gives way to piñon pine, juniper, and the granite outcroppings of the Bradshaw Mountains. That elevation means cooler summers than Phoenix and a four-season golf climate that draws players from the Valley floor looking for relief from the heat — and a genuinely different kind of course experience.
Capital Canyon Club occupies this dramatic terrain with a layout that plays through the natural contours of the canyon landscape. The routing makes use of significant elevation changes, and the surrounding rock formations and high desert vegetation create a visual character that's a long way from the manicured sameness of a resort track. Par 71 suggests at least one unconventional design decision — likely a pair of par 5s rather than the standard four — which can give the card an interesting asymmetry.
Prescott has a healthy local golf scene anchored by several quality courses, and Capital Canyon competes in a region where the landscape itself tends to be the dominant feature. Players come here as much for where they're standing as for the challenge under their feet.
