Haliburton sits at the heart of Ontario's Highlands, a region of exposed Canadian Shield rock, mixed boreal forest, and hundreds of glacially carved lakes. It's cottage country in the truest sense — unhurried, scenic, and a long way from the groomed predictability of the city golf belt. Golf here tends to play with the land rather than against it, and the terrain has a way of making every round feel like something slightly outside the ordinary.
Pinestone Resort is the anchor golf experience in Haliburton village, attached to a full-service resort that draws visitors for the lakes and landscape as much as the golf itself. A par 69 layout suits the rugged, wooded setting well — expect elevation shifts, tight tree-lined corridors, and holes that reward local knowledge over raw power. This is not a course that flatters an unfamiliar game on the first visit.
For resort guests, it offers a self-contained experience: a round in the morning, the lake in the afternoon. For visiting golfers, it's a reasonable anchor for a Highlands golf trip that might also take in several other well-regarded tracks in the surrounding area.
