The Mt Beauty Golf Club sits in one of Victoria's most dramatic alpine settings, occupying the floor of the Kiewa Valley with the Bogong High Plains rising sharply to the south and the Victorian Alps framing the skyline in nearly every direction. Tawonga South is a small community just outside Mt Beauty, itself a planned town built in the 1940s and 50s to house workers on the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme — and that same sense of a place carved deliberately out of wild mountain country carries through to the golf club.
Without the elevation and exposure of the high-country courses further up the ranges, the layout plays at a gentler altitude, but the mountain air, the clarity of light, and the proximity to the Kiewa River give it a character that flat-land courses simply cannot manufacture. Tree-lined fairways, clean alpine conditions, and views that would distract any golfer are the defining features here.
For visitors, this is golf as a reason to be somewhere worth being anyway — ski country in winter, bushwalking and cycling territory in summer, and a full 18-hole course that punches well above the size of the town that hosts it.
