Tahko Golf's Old Course sits within the Tahko resort area of Nilsiä, in the Northern Savonia region of central Finland — one of the country's most concentrated pockets of outdoor leisure, built around the volcanic hill of Tahkovuori and the lake-threaded landscape that surrounds it. Finland's golf season is short but intense, and courses like this one make the most of the long summer days, when rounds can stretch late into the evening under skies that barely darken.
The Old Course is a mature layout woven through the forested terrain and gentle topography typical of the Finnish interior. Birch and pine frame virtually every hole, and the natural elevation changes of the Tahkovuori area — better known as a ski destination in winter — give the course a variety that flat lakeside layouts simply cannot offer. Playing here feels distinctly Scandinavian: quiet, unhurried, and thoroughly absorbed into its surroundings.
As a resort course serving both committed golfers and holidaying families, Tahko Old tends toward accessibility without being without interest. The woodland setting does most of the demanding work, rewarding accurate ball-strikers and punishing those who stray off line into the trees.
