Norman sits at the heart of Oklahoma's college country, home to the University of Oklahoma and the relentless plains weather that defines golf here — wide skies, persistent wind out of the south or southwest, and summers that push well past 100 degrees. That wind is never decorative. On an exposed layout, it quietly turns a routine iron shot into a genuine decision, and a course named "The Links" is openly inviting that comparison to the seaside golf that inspired the label.
A links-style design on the Oklahoma prairie isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. The flat-to-rolling terrain, limited tree cover, and firm turf conditions that the region's climate naturally produces share more with links golf than most inland American courses do. The par-71 configuration suggests some asymmetry in the routing — likely a set of par 3s or par 5s that breaks from the standard template — which can give a layout its own internal rhythm and character.
For golfers in the Oklahoma City metro, Norman offers a legitimate public option with some ambition behind its name, a place where the conditions themselves do much of the course's talking.
