Amarillo Country Club is one of the oldest and most storied private clubs on the Texas Panhandle, a region where golf has been part of civic life since the early twentieth century. The club has long served as the social and competitive anchor of Amarillo's golf community, and its membership roster has historically reflected the city's ranching, oil, and business elite. That heritage gives the place a particular gravity — this is a course with decades of accumulated tradition, not a newcomer chasing a trend.
The Panhandle itself shapes the experience in ways no scorecard can capture. Amarillo sits at roughly 3,600 feet of elevation on the flat, wide-open Llano Estacado, where the wind is less a factor than a permanent co-designer. A calm day feels like a gift. The sky is enormous, the light is sharp, and the landscape has a spare, unforgiving beauty that seeps into how the game feels here.
At par 71, the course plays with enough variety to reward careful course management. For members, though, the deeper draw is belonging to a club that has represented Amarillo's golfing identity for generations.
