Cheyenne's municipal layout has been a workhorse of Wyoming golf for decades, sitting on the high plains just east of the city in the shadow of Cheyenne Regional Airport — a location that gives the course its name and, on certain holes, its soundtrack. At roughly 6,100 feet of elevation, even modest shots travel noticeably farther than golfers expect, which partly offsets the relentless wind that sweeps across these open plains with little to interrupt it. Learning to manage that wind is essentially the entire game here.
The course plays to a par 70, leaning on a pair of par-3s and par-4s to build its routing across flat, exposed terrain typical of southeastern Wyoming. The layout is unpretentious and honest — no forced carries over water, no dramatic elevation changes — just a clean, walkable test that rewards shotmaking and patience over raw power.
Cheyenne itself is a city with a genuine western identity, and Airport Golf Club fits that character: accessible, no-frills, and seriously playable. For locals, it's a reliable everyday track; for visitors passing through, it's an underrated chance to play real high-plains golf.
