Oroville sits in the northern Sacramento Valley, where the Sierra Nevada foothills begin their rise from the valley floor, and Table Mountain Golf Course takes its name from the striking basalt mesa that defines the local skyline. That flat-topped geological landmark — formed by an ancient lava flow that hardened inside a river channel and was later exposed by erosion — is one of the more distinctive landforms in Butte County, and it gives the course an immediate sense of place that few municipal layouts can claim just from their name alone.
The surrounding region is serious golf country in a quietly workmanlike way. Chico to the south supports a strong local golf culture, and the foothills climate means a long playing season, though summers run genuinely hot by afternoon and spring conditions can be exceptional. Oroville itself is a working-class town with a proud history tied to gold mining and the nearby Feather River.
As a city-owned, 18-hole, par-72 layout, Table Mountain exists to serve the community — accessible, unpretentious, and the kind of place where regulars know each other by name and the cart staff knows your usual starting time.
