Roaring Gap sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina, high enough on the escarpment that the air carries a genuine chill well into spring and the views stretch toward Virginia on clear days. This part of Surry County has drawn families from Charlotte and the Piedmont for generations as a summer retreat, and golf has long been part of that seasonal rhythm — the cooler elevation offering relief from the lowland heat that makes midsummer rounds elsewhere a grind.
Olde Beau occupies that mountain setting with a layout that, given the terrain, almost certainly asks players to think carefully about elevation change rather than simply swing away. Mountain courses in this corridor of the Blue Ridge tend to reward shot placement and local knowledge over raw power, and the surrounding hardwood forest means that autumn, when the canopy turns, ranks among the more visually striking times to play anywhere in the Carolina highlands.
The name nods to the area's old-resort character — Roaring Gap has a genteel, unhurried quality that suits a relaxed round far from the traffic of a destination golf corridor.
