Grini Golfklubb

Few courses in the Oslo region carry the institutional weight of Grini. Founded in 1922, it ranks among the oldest clubs in Norway, and its location on the wooded Bærum plateau just west of the capital places it within one of the country's most established golfing communities. The club's name carries a sober historical resonance — Grini was the site of a notorious Nazi detention camp during the Second World War, and that same ground now hosts something altogether more peaceful.

The layout winds through dense Nordic forest, with birch, spruce, and pine pressing close to the fairways and imposing genuine accuracy demands on every tee shot. This is not parkland golf in the manicured English mold — the rough is real, the trees are real, and wayward shots are punished honestly. The terrain rolls naturally, giving the course a textured, undulating feel rather than the flat uniformity of many Scandinavian layouts.

Grini draws a loyal membership from the affluent suburbs of Bærum, and the club carries a reputation for quiet seriousness. The short northern season concentrates play into summer months when the evenings stretch long and the light through the forest canopy is genuinely extraordinary.
