Few courses in New Jersey carry the institutional weight of Forsgate Country Club. Designed by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor — the same partnership responsible for some of the most celebrated layouts in American golf history — the Banks Course at Forsgate is a rare example of their template-hole philosophy applied to central Jersey terrain. Raynor's fingerprints are unmistakable: expect boldly contoured greens, dramatic bunkering, and adaptations of classic holes drawn from the great links of Britain, including versions of the Redan, the Short, and the Alps. The course has hosted multiple USGA events over the decades and remains one of the region's most respected private clubs.
Monroe Township sits in Middlesex County, in the broad central corridor of New Jersey — farmland giving way to suburb, far enough from the Shore and the mountains to occupy its own quiet identity. Forsgate's property retains a sense of openness and scale that the surrounding area's development hasn't erased.
For golfers who appreciate design with intellectual depth rather than mere spectacle, Forsgate rewards study. The par-71 layout plays firm and fast when conditions allow, and the nuanced, ground-game demands of the Macdonald-Raynor canon mean the course reveals itself slowly, visit by visit.
