Few courses in Michigan carry quite the atmosphere of Northport Point Club, a private retreat sitting at the very tip of the Leelanau Peninsula where Grand Traverse Bay meets Lake Michigan. The club is an old-money summer colony institution, the kind of place that has existed quietly for generations, largely unknown outside its membership, while the resort courses of Traverse City and Boyne Country collect the magazine attention. That obscurity is, for those who know it, a significant part of its appeal.
The Leelanau Peninsula is genuinely beautiful golf country — rolling, wooded terrain shaped by glacial activity, with water visible from almost any elevated point. Playing here in summer means long northern light, cool lake breezes, and a landscape of cherries, hardwoods, and dune-backed shoreline that no scorecard figure can convey. The region's short but intense golf season runs roughly Memorial Day through early October.
As a private club in a tight-knit seasonal community, Northport Point functions more as an extension of cottage life than a destination venue — understated, member-focused, and genuinely removed from the commercial golf circuit.
