Cobbs Creek Golf Course Olde

Few municipal courses in America carry as much historical weight as Cobbs Creek. Opened in 1916 and designed by Hugh Wilson — the same architect behind Merion Golf Club's celebrated East Course — the Olde Course was built on land along Cobbs Creek in West Philadelphia and quickly became one of the premier public layouts in the country. For generations it served as the primary proving ground for Philadelphia's Black golfers during the era of segregation, when private clubs were closed to them, producing a remarkable lineage of players and caddies who went on to compete at the highest levels of the game.
