Hillsboro sits in the Tualatin Valley at the western edge of the Portland metro area, where the Coast Range begins its slow rise toward the Pacific. The valley floor is flat, fertile farmland — onion fields and nurseries alongside the tech campuses that have reshaped this corner of Oregon over the past few decades — but the surrounding hills give the landscape a quiet, contained feel. McKay Creek itself is a tributary of the Tualatin River, and a course taking that name almost certainly works with, or around, the natural drainage patterns that define this soggy, lush corner of the Pacific Northwest.
Private golf in the Portland suburbs tends to be understated rather than flashy — well-maintained tracks where serious members play regularly, without the resort-destination energy of Bandon Dunes or the prestige weight of Portland Golf Club. A members' course in this mold is typically a place built around repetition and belonging: regulars who know every pin position, every wet-season lie.
Oregon's Willamette Valley climate means soft fairways through the long, grey winter and genuinely beautiful playing conditions from late spring through October, when the hills go green and the light turns golden in the afternoons.
