The Cotswolds village of Broadway sits at the foot of the escarpment where the limestone plateau of the high wolds drops sharply down to the Vale of Evesham — and few English landscapes offer a more dramatic backdrop for a round of golf. The village itself is one of the most visited in England, its honey-colored stone high street drawing visitors to the edges of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire in considerable numbers. Broadway Golf Club occupies the hillier ground above the village, where the terrain is characteristically open and exposed, the turf firm and fast-running in the manner of true upland Cotswolds golf.
Playing here means contending with the elevation changes and prevailing winds that the escarpment edge creates. Views across the Vale toward the Malvern Hills are a constant companion on the higher holes, and the course rewards players who work the ground rather than simply the air — a style of golf that suits the terrain and conditions naturally found at this altitude.
As a members' club serving a rural village community, Broadway offers the kind of unhurried, unaffected golf that remains the quiet backbone of the English game.
