Gullringens Golfklubb sits in the quiet inland countryside of Småland, the vast forested province that covers much of southeastern Sweden. Gullringen itself is a small village in Vimmerby Municipality, a corner of Sweden better known for Astrid Lindgren — the author of Pippi Longstocking was born nearby in Vimmerby — than for its golf, which gives the club a pleasantly unhurried, away-from-it-all character. The landscape here is classic Småland: rolling terrain, mixed woodland, granite outcroppings, and the kind of austere natural beauty that defines the Swedish interior.
The club is a member-run, community-oriented setup typical of Swedish rural golf — the sort of place where local families have played for generations and the atmosphere in the clubhouse reflects that continuity. Courses in this part of Kalmar County tend to use the natural topography rather than fight it, routing holes through woodland corridors and across open meadows with the forest pressing in at the edges.
For visiting golfers, Gullringen offers a genuine slice of everyday Swedish golf culture, far removed from resort polish or competitive pressure. It rewards those who simply want to walk a course in good air, surrounded by birch and pine, in one of Scandinavia's most quietly beautiful provinces.
