Big Lake Country Club serves the ranching and oil community of Big Lake, the seat of Reagan County in the heart of the Permian Basin. This is deep West Texas — arid, windswept, and flat, where the horizon stretches unbroken and the sky dominates everything. Golf out here has always been a practical, no-frills affair, a social anchor for a small town that sits roughly equidistant from San Angelo, Midland, and Odessa, far from any metropolitan golf culture.
As a private members' club in a town of just a few thousand, the course almost certainly functions as the community's gathering point — the place where ranchers, oilfield hands, and local businesspeople settle their Saturday rivalries and hold the tournaments that mark the calendar year. That social role matters as much as any design feature.
Expect Bermuda grass fairways built to withstand the punishing summer heat, persistent wind that turns straightforward holes into genuine puzzles, and the spare, honest character that defines small-town country club golf across rural Texas.
