Few American cities wear their history as openly as Savannah, and the country club that bears its name is very much a product of that tradition. Savannah Country Club is one of the older private clubs in the Deep South, with roots stretching back to the late 19th century. The club has long been a cornerstone of Savannah's social and sporting life, reflecting the city's particular blend of old-money formality and unhurried Southern grace.
The course plays through the kind of landscape coastal Georgia does exceptionally well — mature hardwoods draped in Spanish moss, with the humidity and heat of the Low Country shaping every round from late spring through early fall. The unusual par of 71 gives the routing a distinct personality, and members will tell you the course rewards local knowledge as much as raw power.
For visiting golfers, playing here means stepping into a club culture that takes its golf seriously but never loses sight of hospitality — very much in keeping with a city that considers graciousness a civic virtue.
