Few golf courses occupy the unusual position of sitting inside a planned community, but Reston National has done exactly that since the early 1970s — woven into the residential fabric of one of America's most deliberate urban experiments. Reston, Virginia was designed from scratch in the 1960s as a visionary alternative to suburban sprawl, and the golf course was always part of that blueprint, giving the community a green spine that has matured handsomely over the decades.
The course plays through mature hardwoods and rolling terrain typical of the Northern Virginia Piedmont, where the land between the Blue Ridge foothills and the DC metro area gives designers natural contour to work with. Fairways weave through a landscape that feels considerably more secluded than its proximity to Dulles Airport and the Beltway corridor would suggest.
As a public facility serving one of the region's most golf-active populations, Reston National carries real democratic purpose — this is everyday golf for serious players and casual weekend rounds alike, a workhorse track with genuine character earned through decades of community use.
