Few private clubs in Tennessee carry the social and sporting weight of Hillwood Country Club. Founded in the mid-20th century and set in the affluent Belle Meade corridor on Nashville's west side, Hillwood has long served as one of the city's most prestigious members' clubs — a place where the game is taken seriously and the membership reflects Nashville's established elite. The club hosted the 1967 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, a credential that speaks to the caliber of the layout and its standing within competitive golf.
The course sits on rolling Middle Tennessee terrain, the kind of gently wooded, parkland landscape that gives Nashville-area golf its particular character — bermudagrass fairways, hardwoods framing the lines of play, and elevation changes that make club selection a genuine puzzle. It plays as a full-length par 72, demanding patience and precision from the tee rather than raw power.
Nashville's golf culture runs deeper than the honky-tonk reputation suggests, and Hillwood sits near the top of that pecking order — a club that rewards members who invest time in understanding its rhythms.
