Calgary's northwest quadrant has long been fertile ground for golf, and Country Hills Golf Club stands as one of the city's most established and respected private clubs. The club operates 2 distinct 18-hole courses — the Hills and the Lakes — designed by Graham Cooke, one of Canada's most prolific and thoughtful course architects. Cooke shaped both layouts to take advantage of the rolling foothills terrain that characterizes this part of Alberta, with the Nose Hill escarpment providing a dramatic natural backdrop and genuinely varied ground to work with.
The Hills course carries the stronger reputation of the two, rewarding precise ball-striking and course management over raw power, while the Lakes layout introduces water as a consistent strategic variable. Together they give the membership real variety — two genuinely different tests within the same property.
Country Hills sits in a city that punches well above its weight in golf. Calgary's short but intense season — roughly May through October — creates a culture of serious, committed players, and a club of this caliber attracts members who treat the game with real seriousness.
