Grænanesvöllur

Neskaupstaður sits at the end of Norðfjörður, one of the deep, glacier-carved fjords of Iceland's East Fjords — a region so remote that reaching it by land still means crossing mountain passes that close in winter. The town is one of the larger communities on this coast, built around fishing and fish processing, and the landscape that surrounds any round of golf here is genuinely dramatic: near-vertical fjord walls, Atlantic light that shifts constantly, and a silence broken mainly by wind and seabirds.

Grænanesvöllur is the local course serving this community, and like most East Iceland tracks it operates in the spirit of the old Nordic golf tradition — golf as something you play because you love the game and the outdoors, not because you are chasing a resort experience. Courses in the Icelandic fjords tend to be compact and unpretentious, shaped around whatever flat ground the terrain allows.
