Estacada sits about 30 miles southeast of Portland in the foothills of the Mount Hood National Forest, where the Clackamas River carves through dense Douglas fir and western red cedar. It's a working-class corner of the Willamette Valley's eastern edge — unhurried, genuinely scenic, and a long way in spirit from the manicured resort corridors of Bend or the coast.
A par-70 layout signals a design that leans on precision over power. Expect a course built around the terrain rather than imposed upon it, where shorter holes reward placement and course management, and where the surrounding treeline keeps wayward shots honest. Estacada's wet winters and mild but overcast springs mean the ground stays soft well into the season, rewarding players who flight the ball well and think about turf conditions.
Springwater reads as a local's course in the best sense — the kind of place where Portland-area golfers escape the city without the price tag or pretense of a destination layout. The Mount Hood foothills setting does a lot of the heavy lifting scenically.
