Few addresses in American golf carry the exclusivity of Indian Creek Village, a small incorporated municipality on a private island in Biscayne Bay between Miami Beach and Bal Harbour. The village itself has fewer than 40 residents — some of the wealthiest per capita anywhere in the world — and the country club is the island's social and recreational centerpiece. Membership here is not applied for so much as inherited or bestowed, making Indian Creek one of the most genuinely private clubs in the United States.
The course occupies nearly the entirety of the island's interior, which means players are essentially surrounded by water throughout the round. Biscayne Bay frames the property on all sides, and the South Florida light — bright, flat, and occasionally brutal — is as much a part of the experience as the layout itself. The subtropical setting means lush bermudagrass fairways and year-round playability, but also the unpredictable winds that blow off the bay.
Because the club guards its details as carefully as its gates, little about the course's design history circulates publicly — which is, in its own way, entirely on brand.
