Few places in Slovenia put you so completely inside the country's wine country as Zlati Grič, the resort and golf course set among the rolling vineyard hills above Slovenske Konjice. The course occupies the same sun-warmed slopes that produce the region's well-regarded white wines — Šipon and Laški Rizling among them — and the interplay between fairways and working vines gives the round a sensory texture you won't find on a parkland layout elsewhere in Central Europe.
The course itself is a compact, hilly layout that rewards accuracy and local knowledge over raw distance. Elevation changes are constant, lending every hole a distinct personality and making yardages on the card something of a fiction — uphill approaches play considerably longer, downhill ones demand precise club selection. The surrounding Štajerska region, Slovenia's largest wine-growing area, provides a backdrop of terraced hillsides that make even a wayward shot a scenic one.
Zlati Grič functions as a full resort, meaning visiting golfers have access to the hotel and the estate's own wine cellar, which gives the whole experience a leisurely, unhurried character suited to a weekend away rather than a competitive grind.
