Sisseton sits in the northeastern corner of South Dakota, where the Coteau des Prairies — the "plateau of the prairies" — rises above the surrounding lowlands in a landscape shaped by glaciers and dotted with wetlands, native grasses, and wide open sky. It's genuinely distinctive terrain for golf: rolling, exposed, and honest, the kind of ground where the wind is a permanent playing partner and the views stretch well past the boundary markers.
Valley View Country Club reads true to that setting. The name isn't marketing — elevation changes and sight lines are real features out here, not manufactured ones, and the course almost certainly rewards players who respect the conditions rather than fight them. A par 72 layout in this part of the Northern Plains can play very differently in June than it does in August, with the prevailing winds off the prairie shifting the effective challenge from hole to hole throughout the season.
As the home course for Sisseton and the surrounding Roberts County communities, Valley View carries the character of a member-owned club that serves its town — unpretentious, well-maintained by local pride, and deeply connected to the rhythms of the region it represents.
