Baie-Comeau sits on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, roughly 420 kilometres northeast of Québec City, in one of the more dramatically remote corners of the province. The town itself was founded in the 1930s as a planned industrial community built around a paper mill and an aluminum smelter — a place shaped by resource extraction and boreal ambition, where the river runs wide enough to look like a sea and the surrounding landscape is all spruce forest, rock, and cold northern light.
A par-71 layout in this part of Québec tells you something about the terrain it had to work with — not a flat parkland canvas but a site that likely imposed its own constraints and character on the routing. The season here is genuinely short, compressed between snowmelt and the return of hard frost, which gives each round a particular urgency that golfers in more temperate climates rarely feel.
The Côte-Nord region draws people who want the real north rather than a postcard version of it. Golf here is a community affair — the kind of club that exists because locals built it and kept it alive, not because a developer saw an opportunity.
