Fairbanks sits just 120 miles south of the Arctic Circle, and golf here operates on a different clock than anywhere else in the Lower 48. North Star GC takes full advantage of the Midnight Sun — during peak summer, rounds can tee off well past 10 p.m. under skies that never fully darken, a genuinely surreal experience that no scorecard stat can capture. The course runs through the boreal landscape typical of interior Alaska, where black spruce, birch, and tamarack frame the fairways and the Alaska Range occasionally shoulders into view on clear days.
Interior Alaska golf has a short but intense season compressed into the summer months, and the local golf community embraces it with real enthusiasm. Fairbanks golfers play hard from breakup in May through the early September chill, making up in passion what the calendar takes away.
As a full 18-hole layout at par 72, North Star represents serious golf infrastructure for a subarctic city — this is a place where the setting is genuinely unlike anywhere else you'll play.
