Dalmahoy West

Few courses in Scotland carry the pedigree of Dalmahoy. The estate west of Edinburgh has been a fixture of Scottish golf since the 1920s, when James Braid — 5-time Open Champion and one of the most prolific architects of his era — laid out both courses on the grounds of the Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club. The West course is the shorter, more relaxed sibling to the Championship East, but Braid's design intelligence is still present throughout, with the rolling Midlothian parkland shaping strategic decisions at nearly every hole.

With a par of 68, the West plays as a genuine challenge for mid-to-high handicappers while offering stronger players a chance to post an encouraging number. The mature tree-lined corridors and views toward the Pentland Hills give it a quiet grandeur that belies its secondary status on the property.

Dalmahoy itself is best known as host to the 1992 Solheim Cup, one of the most dramatic early editions of that competition. The West course sits within that same storied setting.
