Hattem sits at the edge of the Veluwe, where the IJssel river floodplain meets the wooded sandstone ridges that define some of the most distinctive golfing terrain in the Netherlands. De Hattemse Golf & Country Club occupies this transitional landscape on the outskirts of a small, well-preserved Hanseatic town — one of the oldest in Gelderland — giving the club a sense of rootedness that newer Dutch layouts rarely achieve. The course winds through mature deciduous woodland, with fairways shaped by the natural contours of the land rather than imposed upon it.
Dutch inland golf has its own quiet character: firm, fast-running turf for much of the year, significant tree cover that rewards accurate positioning off the tee, and autumn conditions that rank among the finest in European club golf. Hattem's setting delivers all of this, with the added visual reward of the IJssel valley visible through the treeline on several holes.
As a private members' club, De Hattemse is genuinely community-oriented — the kind of place where the same faces have walked the same holes for decades, and where visitors tend to arrive by introduction rather than by booking engine.
