Few addresses in American golf carry quite the residential cachet of Rancho Santa Fe. The club sits within one of Southern California's most exclusive planned communities, a eucalyptus-lined enclave northeast of San Diego developed in the 1920s originally as a eucalyptus timber venture for the Santa Fe Railway — a project that failed commercially but gave rise to one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country. Golf here has always been part of the fabric of that rarefied community life.
The course itself is a private members' club, and it plays very much in that tradition — a place where belonging matters as much as the back nine. The inland San Diego County terrain offers a rolling, sun-drenched landscape distinct from the coastal bluff courses to the west, with the region's characteristic dry summers and mild winters making this genuine year-round golf country.
Without a deep well of public tournament history, Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club earns its reputation the quieter way: as a course its members genuinely love, in a setting that reminds you why people moved here in the first place.
