Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Chateau Whistler Golf Club, which opened in 1993 on the lower slopes of Blackcomb Mountain. It is one of the most dramatically situated resort courses in Canada — the fairways climb and fall through dense Pacific Northwest forest, with the mountain rising steeply above and the village of Whistler visible below. Jones leaned into the terrain rather than fighting it, producing a layout where elevation changes are a genuine strategic factor on nearly every hole. The course has earned consistent recognition among Canada's best resort tracks.
Whistler itself is a world-class mountain destination, and golf here sits alongside skiing, hiking, and cycling as a legitimate draw from late spring through early autumn. The growing season is short but the conditions, when the mountain weather cooperates, are striking — cool air, lush fairways, and the kind of scenery that tends to distract even the most focused players.
This is unambiguously resort golf, built to reward and impress visitors, but the routing has enough teeth — steep carries, uneven lies, and the ever-present elevation — that scoring well demands real attention alongside the sightseeing.
