Few corners of American golf carry more weight than the Pinehurst sandhills, and Country Club of North Carolina sits comfortably within that storied tradition. The Dogwood course is 1 of 2 full-length layouts on the CCNC property — alongside the Cardinal — and together they form one of the more quietly distinguished private clubs in a region already dense with serious golf. Ellis Maples, a native North Carolinian whose father Frank helped shape Pinehurst No. 2 alongside Donald Ross, designed the original Dogwood routing, giving it a bloodline that fits its surroundings.
The sandhills terrain does much of the work here: the wire grass rough, longleaf pines framing virtually every hole, and the sandy soil that rewards precise ball-striking and punishes the wayward in the understated way Ross made famous just down the road. The ground game matters, and the course rewards players who think rather than simply overpower it.
CCNC has long been a fixture in North Carolina's private club hierarchy, drawing members who want a genuine club experience in one of golf's most historically significant zip codes.
