Hood River sits at the crossroads of 2 of the Pacific Northwest's most dramatic landscapes — the Columbia River Gorge to the north and the flanks of Mount Hood rising to the south. It's a town better known for windsurfing and orchard country than championship golf, but that agricultural and volcanic backdrop gives Indian Creek its defining character. The course plays through terrain shaped by the same geological forces that carved the Gorge, with the kind of views that make it genuinely difficult to keep your eyes on the ball.
As a public, everyday layout in a small outdoor-recreation town, Indian Creek serves a broad mix of locals and visitors passing through on the Mount Hood Scenic Byway or stopping over after time on the river. That community-course spirit tends to mean a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere — the sort of place where a walking round on a weekday morning feels like a genuine reward rather than a formal occasion.
The Gorge corridor brings reliable wind, which plays a significant role in how the course actually plays regardless of what the yardage suggests. Conditions shift throughout the day, and a downwind hole in the morning can become a full-club adjustment by afternoon.
