Cocotal Club de Golf sits at the heart of the Bavaro resort corridor, winding through one of the Dominican Republic's most densely developed tourist zones in a way that somehow still feels removed from the all-inclusive bustle surrounding it. Designed by José "Pepe" Gancedo, the Spanish architect responsible for several of the Caribbean's more ambitious resort layouts, Cocotal opened in the late 1990s and has since become one of Punta Cana's most-played courses — a genuine destination round rather than a throwaway resort amenity.

Gancedo routed the course through a mature palm forest, and those towering coconut palms — the source of the course's name — define its personality entirely. Fairways are generous in places but the tree lines are dense and unforgiving, and water comes into play on a meaningful number of holes. The result is a layout that rewards accuracy over raw power and plays longer and more demanding than a casual resort round might suggest.
