Brasília occupies a singular place in the history of planned cities — conceived from scratch in the late 1950s and inaugurated in 1960, it was purpose-built as Brazil's federal capital on the high savanna of the Planalto Central. That landscape, known as the Cerrado, is one of the world's most biodiverse tropical savannas, characterized by dramatic open skies, red laterite soils, and a dry season that bleaches the grasslands to a golden hue before the rains return everything to vivid green. Golf here means playing at roughly 1,100 meters of elevation, where the thinner air gives the ball noticeably more carry than players accustomed to sea level might expect.
Clube de Golfe de Brasília is the city's premier golf facility, a full par-72 layout that has served the diplomatic and political community of the capital for decades. Private clubs in planned cities often carry a certain formality, and this one reflects Brasília's character — deliberate, spacious, and unlike anything found in Brazil's coastal metropolises.
For visiting golfers, the course represents a genuinely rare experience: golf on the Brazilian interior plateau, far from the beach resorts of Rio or the urban sprawl of São Paulo, in a city that feels like no other place on earth.
