Golf de Chamonix

Few golf courses anywhere announce themselves with quite this level of drama. Golf de Chamonix sits at roughly 3,300 feet in the Arve Valley, with the Mont Blanc massif — Europe's highest peak — dominating the skyline above. The course occupies a long, narrow corridor of land that the mountains dictate rather than suggest, and the result is a layout where the terrain is never a backdrop but an active participant. Mature pines frame many holes, the turf plays firm and fast in summer, and the high-altitude light gives the place an almost unreal clarity on a good day.

Opened in 1934, the course has a genuine history rooted in the golden era of Alpine tourism, when Chamonix was already established as one of Europe's great mountain destinations.
