Prineville Golf Club sits in the high desert of central Oregon, where the Crooked River carves through rimrock country and the terrain feels genuinely unlike anywhere else in the Pacific Northwest. Prineville itself is one of Oregon's oldest incorporated cities, the county seat of Crook County, and a place that has held onto its ranching and timber identity long after similar towns reinvented themselves. Golf here means playing in thin, dry air at roughly 2,900 feet elevation, under the kind of wide-open sky that makes the Cascades visible on a clear day to the west.
A par 65 layout puts this squarely in executive-course territory, built around shorter holes where shot-shaping and accuracy matter more than raw distance. That format suits a working community well — quicker rounds, accessible green fees, and a relaxed atmosphere more interested in getting people on the course than impressing them with ceremony.
Central Oregon's golf scene is anchored by the resort corridor around Bend, but Prineville offers something different: a no-frills local club with genuine high-desert character, where the landscape does most of the talking.
