Deerwood sits in the heart of Brainerd Lakes Country, one of Minnesota's most concentrated pockets of recreational golf. The region's glacially sculpted terrain — all kettle lakes, wooded ridgelines, and rolling moraines — gives courses here a natural topography that flatter states simply can't replicate. Cuyuna Rolling Hills takes its name from the old Cuyuna Iron Range, the distinct mining district that once defined this part of central Minnesota and left behind a landscape dotted with flooded ore pits that have since become some of the clearest lakes in the state.
An 18-hole, par-72 layout on genuinely rolling ground tells you something right away: expect elevation changes that demand real shot-shaping and club selection, not just distance management. Minnesota's short but intense golf season means courses in this corridor tend to be well-maintained precisely because operators have a narrow window to make their impression.
This is everyday, accessible golf in a setting that earns its keep on scenery alone. For visitors passing through the lakes region, it's a natural stop — low-key in character but elevated by the land it occupies.
