Castlerock sits on the north coast of Northern Ireland where the River Bann meets the Atlantic, and the landscape here is elemental — wide dune systems, salt-flecked winds off the sea, and skies that change by the hour. Mussenden is the inland course of the Castlerock Golf Club, sharing the grounds with the club's more celebrated links but offering its own distinct character through farmland and natural terrain rather than the drama of the dunes.
The north Antrim coast is one of Ireland's great stretches of golf country, with Royal Portrush a short drive away and the broader Causeway Coast drawing serious players from across the world. Playing in this region means contending with honest seaside conditions — the wind is rarely absent, and course management counts for as much as ball-striking.
As a par 73, Mussenden plays to a slightly different rhythm than a standard layout, with the extra par providing at least one moment of breathing room. It is a solid companion piece to one of Northern Ireland's most storied golfing addresses.
