Few courses on the Algarve carry the weight of a name like Quinta do Lago, and Laranjal — meaning "orange grove" in Portuguese — lives up to that legacy with its own distinct personality. Designed by Beau Wyndham and opened in 2009, it occupies land within the vast Quinta do Lago estate, weaving through the umbrella pine forests and cork oak woodland that define this corner of southern Portugal. The routing takes full advantage of natural elevation changes, producing a more dynamic, undulating experience than some of its flatter sibling courses nearby.
Laranjal plays as a genuine test of shot-making rather than pure length. Fairway corridors are framed tightly by mature trees, demanding accuracy off the tee, while greens with subtle movement reward course management over brute force. The overall atmosphere is quieter and more contemplative than the resort's flagship North and South courses.
Almancil sits at the heart of the Golden Triangle — the stretch of the Algarve that includes Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura — making Quinta do Lago among the most accessible and refined golf destinations in all of Europe.
