Oporto Golf Club

Few golf clubs on the Iberian Peninsula carry the weight of history that Oporto Golf Club does. Founded in 1890 by British port wine merchants living in northern Portugal, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in continental Europe, and that lineage is felt the moment you walk through the gates. The club has occupied its current home in Espinho since 1932, when the layout was redesigned — a course that rewards thoughtful, measured play over raw power.

Espinho sits on Portugal's Atlantic coast roughly 20 kilometres south of Porto, and the ocean presence is constant here. The terrain is relatively flat but the coastal winds shift and strengthen in ways that render the course a fundamentally different test depending on the day. Pine trees line many of the holes, providing both definition and shelter, though they're just as likely to punish a wayward shot as protect one from the breeze.
