Fort Buchanan Golf Club occupies a distinctive slice of Puerto Rican golf history — it sits on the grounds of the U.S. Army's Fort Buchanan military installation in Guaynabo, one of the oldest active federal military reservations in the United States. Like most military courses, access is tied to the base, meaning the layout primarily serves active-duty personnel, veterans, and Department of Defense affiliates rather than the general public. That exclusivity gives the club a close-knit, no-frills character where the game itself takes center stage.
Guaynabo sits within the greater San Juan metropolitan area, just inland from the coast, where the landscape transitions from urban density into the lush, hilly terrain that defines Puerto Rico's interior. The island's tropical climate means playing conditions are green year-round, though the heat and humidity — especially in summer — are as much a part of the experience as any bunker or dogleg.
For eligible players, this is a rare opportunity to play golf on an active U.S. military base in the Caribbean, a setting that carries its own atmosphere entirely apart from the scorecard.
